CMPD has begun the petition campaign to get signatures of 3,000 registered resident voters toward formation of the Chuckanut Mountains Park District. The CMPD committee report at the March ENA monthly meeting will address that campaign. Petitions will be available for those wishing to sign up at the meeting and packets for those able to assist in gathering signatures. We welcome help anyone can provide in this effort. Time is essential because after verifying the signatures by the county auditor, we are subject to review by the Boundary Review Commission which will take a minimum of 45 days and we must have the petition to the auditor for filing by August 14th. Petitions to sign are available at the Amtrak Station, Eclipse Books and the Community Food Co-op.
Specific information about the proposed park district, which emphasizes conservation in this unique region where the Cascades meet the sea, is available on the CMPD website, www.chuckanutmpd.org.
